After camp

Camp is done, and you’ve returned home. No doubt you brought home not only your own personal stuff, but also your fair share of the group gear, and/or your tent. What to do?

Sleeping Bag

Remember to take your sleeping back out of its stuff sack, and hang it up to air out and dry out. Stuff it back in the stuff sack after a day or two. If you want the sleeping bag to smell fresh next time, consider putting a dryer sheet in with the sleeping bag.

Tent

If you brought home a tent, take it out of its sack, and hang it and the fly up to dry for a few days. If the camp was wet, take the poles and pegs out of their sack as well, and let them dry out, too. When everything is dry, fold it up and put it back in the sack, ready for next camp. Again, consider adding a dryer sheet to the tent to help it smell fresher for the next camp.

Do not bring the tent back to the next scout meeting unless that is a meeting where we are preparing for the next camp and you won’t be attending that camp. Otherwise, just bring the tent with you to the next camp.

The tent is the responsibility of the scout to maintain and bring to and from meetings and camps, not the leaders or parents.

Patrol Box and /or Contents

The cooking utensils need to be washed, and everything else should be wiped down. Otherwise, everything gets really icky. It’s not fun to begin the next camp with everything still dirty from the last camp, especially if it was a few months ago.

Do not bring the patrol box back to the next scout meeting unless that is a meeting where we are preparing for the next camp, and the patrol needs to be deciding on what gear will be needed, and who will bring what as their fair share. \\
